Season Highlights

In the current season, Vienna-born soprano Alice Waginger appears as Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier / R. Strauss) and Martha (Martha / F. von Flotow) in productions at the Oper in der Krypta, Vienna. With her recital program "In flüchtigem Licht" she performs at the Schlossfestival Gleinstätten, featuring works by Fauré, Debussy, Chaminade, Schubert, and Pfitzner. In November she will be heard in Bach Cantatas at Stift Lilienfeld. A special highlight of summer 2025 was her portrayal of Eurydice in Gluck's Orpheus at the Gentse Feesten in Belgium.

A central focus of Alice Waginger's artistic work is children's opera: she not only performs in but also writes her own works for the stage. In December, two new productions – Nikolo in Wien and Die Sterntaler – will be premiered, while her children's operas remain part of the repertoire throughout the entire season at the Kinderoper in der Krypta, Vienna.

In the field of opera and operetta, Alice Waginger has performed more than 45 roles. Alongside central parts such as Adele (Die Fledermaus), Despina (Così fan tutte), Papagena, Pamina and Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte), Blonde (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), and Christl (Der Vogelhändler), she is also dedicated to rarely performed repertoire. She has appeared as Nanette (Die schwarze Frau, Ad. Müller sen.), Leonore (Doktor und Apotheker, C. D. von Dittersdorf), Floretta (Der Sackpfeifer, C. Millöcker & L. Anzengruber), Antschi (Liebeswalzer, C. M. Ziehrer), and Helene (Der Kellermeister, C. Zeller).

Her solo engagements have taken her to the Bühne Baden, the Lehár Festival Bad Ischl, the Vienna Musikverein, the Kultursommer Wien, and the Stadttheater Wiener Neustadt. In addition, Alice Waginger took part in the acclaimed CD recording of Johann Strauss' Die Fledermaus with the NDR Radiophilharmonie under the baton of Lawrence Foster, singing the role of Ida. She is also a permanent member of the Austrian operetta ensemble Oper@Tee.

Alice Waginger was born in Vienna and studied Vocal Performance at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Prof. Bernhard Adler. She also received training in Lied and Oratorio with Prof. Charles Spencer and completed the "Operetta Performance Program" with Wolfgang Dosch (MUK). Today, she works as a freelance singer throughout the German-speaking world.
